300lbs of Clean & Jerk, 40 Seconds and Eternal Glory!

OK lah, maybe not eternal glory, but the euphoria is right up there.

Coming from a rock climbing background, one of the reason why I love crossfit, despite both being pretty “individualistic sports”, is the amazing sense of community and support from fellow participants and athletes. Especially during those crunch times when you need to dig deep. The video below demonstrates it pretty well.

Rob Orlando attempts a 300lbs x 3 Clean & Jerk in a regional qualifier. It needs to be completed within 40 seconds.

That’s a heavy weight – nearly 140kgs. I may be able to lift half of that.

What You Need To Know About Health and Fitness

A fitness trainer summarizes all the important things that he’s learned about health and fitness. Amongst the gem:

  • Pushups are the best upper body workout designed… no machine can replace that… you don’t need any equipment and you can do them anywhere.
  • If you eat whole foods that have been around for 1000s of years, you probably don’t have to worry about counting calories.
  • The eat low-fat advice was the biggest health disaster in the last 30 years. Meat and Fat are my friends.
  • 80% of your results come from just 20% of the exercises, 20% of the food in supermarkets, and spending 20% of your time working out.

Presses (3-3-3-3-3)

Result: 30kg, 40, 45 (2), 47 (1)

7 Rounds of:

  • 7 Push Press @ 60kg
  • 7 Burpees
  • 7 Pull Ups (CTB)

Result: 20:09 (Press @ 40kg)

Started with the barbell presses. Managed to increase a 1RM PR of 47kg. Managed 46kg last week so this is a nice, incremental improvement.

Then got attempted the 2nd workout that JW did just moments earlier. It looked easy enough on the board… 7 reps each. But damn, by the 2nd round I was out of air and had to take breathers after every set. Must be the burpees!

Pumping Iron With Arnold Schwarzenegger

Prior to his acting days, current California governor Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger was a champion bodybuilder, winning the Mr Universe title at 22, and Mr Olympia 7 times (the professional competition for Mr Universe winners).

Pumping Iron follows Arnold Schwarzenegger’s training days leading up to his winning a 6th consecutive Mr Olympia in 1975.

Interestingly, the Austrian-born Arnold started out as a soccer player – and only discovered bodybuilding when the coach brought the team to train at a local gym.

Check out the size of those… everything!
